Juan Luna and Freeway

Freeway has always been known for celebrating the lives of prominent Filipino Artists. This time is no different as Freeway chose to honor a man whose works of art have stood the test of time and whose masterpieces still continue to live on in the hearts of many. This man is none other than Juan Luna, Filipino Master for Visual Arts.

The event was held on October 10, 2013 at the Lopez Memorial Museum in Pasig City. It was definitely a grand fusion of art and fashion as the event was attended by several prominent figures from both ends such as fashion bloggers, art enthusiasts, critics, media and many more. Of course, the celebration of Juan Luna wouldn’t be complete without the works of Juan Luna himself. Guests were able to view a number of his key pieces through the Lopez Museum’s on going exhibit, Trajectories, which will be available for viewing until October 31, 2013. The exhibit also features the prominent works of Filipino Master Felix Hidalgo plus masterpieces of esteemed National Artists artists such as Vicente Manansala, HR Ocampo, Fernando Amorsolo among others. It is the first time in 8 years that the Lopez Memorial Museum has had a lineup of historic greats such as these.

Hosted by ANC anchor Lexi Schulze, the night kicked off with a video presentation of Juan Luna’s life and works. Furthermore, Freeway was ecstatic to have Art Historian, Mr. Santiago Pilar, and Lopez Memorial Museum Director, Ms. Mercedes Lopez Vargas, talk more about Luna’s achievements and masterpieces. Through this, the guests were able to know more about the Filipino Master’s beginnings and great contributions to the Philippine art history.

The real highlight of the night though was the exclusive fashion show! Guests were able to catch a glimpse of the first ever Filipino Masters Collector’s Series Juan Luna Collection as the 24 piece debut collection was unveiled, including a few shirts for men. The fashion show showcased highlight famous Luna pieces such as El Flautista, I am Cold, Una Dama Francesca, Espana y Filipinas, Fencing Positions, Rice Harvesting, Various Subjects and A Roman. Models worked the runway in shoes from Janilyn for the ladies and were glammed up by Piandre Salon for their hair and VMV Hypoallergenics for their make-up.
Truly, the event was something to remember as guests went home that night filled with more knowledge, appreciation and awe for fashion as Freeway shared yet another superb historical figure for the entire art and fashion society to see.
