Indonesia 5 Hour Stay

Indonesia was not in my plan when I booked Singapore and Kuala Lumpur flight in the Travel Fair. My kumareng Juliet, Vanj and Honey though recommended we visit the place since it's just an hour away (via ferry)  in Singapore.

Thru the help of Pareng Rey, we were able to book online for the ferry ride.  Our departure time from Singapore was 12:30pm and 7pm return from Indonesia to Singapore.

We were hoping to see some beaches and mosques in Batam, Indonesia unfortunately the taxi driver said it's far and the traffic is terrible that we might miss our ride back to Singapore. The only attraction we saw was Barelang Bridge.  The Philippines has more and better bridges but this Bridge is important to Indonesians because it is a chain of 6 bridges of various types that connect the islands of Batam, Rempang, and Galang, Riau Islands built in 1997. Barelang also refers to the islands themselves, which are all administratively part of the municipality of Batam. The smaller islands of Tonton, Nipah, and Setotok (considered parts of the Batam island group) connect Batam and Rempang. The entire Barelang region covers 715 km.

We only stayed in Barelang Bridge for 5 minutes. Drove 45 minutes to the nearest Nagoya Mall, where we spent most of our time shopping for pasalubong.

Do I recommend this place? I say no if you will be there for just a day or 5 hours just like we did. We find DIY-ing trip at Batam, Indonesia difficult because we actually didn't know what to do there. We also had difficulty talkin to the taxi drive/tour guide because he knows "small English only".

I've talked to some of the fellow Filipinos who joined the group tour, they did not enjoy the tour as they were mostly brought in shopping malls. On the other hand, my friends Juliet, Vanj and Honey recommends staying in one of the hotels for a day or two.

I believe there's plenty of things to discover in Indonesia given ample time and a good tour guide. We missed eating theirlocal food instead opted for Wendy's, J.Co and Baskin Robbins.

There are numerous ferry crossings operating from Singapore to Batam via Harbourfront. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour from SG to Batam, Indonesia.

Kuala Lumpur in 5 Hours

Our trip to Petronas Twin Towers was cut short because we enjoyed Legoland and stayed longer than what we planned. Our online booking also had some problems. We were supposed to leave Legoland by 12nn but the bus we booked picked us at 6pm.

At the bus, we also had problems with seating arrangements. We arrived very early and was able to seat in front but we were told to seat at the back. Good thing there was a Malaysian who can speak English well. He assisted us and was given a better seat.

My husband and Jesu Dasan had conversations all throughout the bus ride. When Jesu learned we were just there to see Petronas he was kind enough to offer us a ride to his van. It was a 45 minute drive from the bus station to Petronas. Jesu didn't asked for a single ringgit. God is great by sending us Jesu. If not for him we would have gone straight to the airport and missed Petronas Twin Towers.

We arrived in Petronas at almost 1 in the morning.  Good thing the guards allowed us to take some photos and quick videos for this vlog even if the towers is closed by 11pm.

If you plan to tour Petronas Twin Towers and the nearby tourist spots, I suggest you hire a tour guide so you can visit as many places as possible in one day.

Soaring to a height of 451.9 metres, the 88-storey twin structure is Kuala Lumpur's crown jewel. Majestic by day and dazzling at night, the PETRONAS Twin Towers is inspired by Tun Mahathir Mohamad's vision for Malaysia to be a global player. Together with master architect Cesar Pelli, the international icon powerfully captures the nation's ambitions and aspirations.

“ As an internationally recognized landmark,
the PETRONAS Twin Towers symbolize the courage, ingenuity,
initiative, and determination, energy, confidence, optimism,
advancement and zest of a nation. ”

The Pancake Warrior at The Maya Hotcake Art

Aside from Christmas, summer time is always the best for me because I get to join mom in events that interests me. I can't remember the last time I wrote for this blog. It's usually my twin brother, my dad, or the other contributors that have time to do so.

Although my brother also attended this Maya Hotcake Art, I chose to write because I really enjoyed meeting and learning from Elle Jay Orbase, also known in YouTube world as The Pancake Warrior. Plus, I'm also into arts. I like, drawing and painting (when I'm in the mood, or when mom forces me to paint for her, lol!)

Elle Jay, though originally from Cotabato City, studied and graduated in Cebu. It was in 2012 when he took up culinary courses on the weekends while working at a call center to support his dream of learning culinary. After receiving his culinary diploma, Elle Jay served as a Demi-Cook for Shangri-La Mactan in their buffet section and dessert plating section. Apart from hotcake art, Elle Jay’s specialty is Humba, a braised pork belly dish marinated with soy sauce and brown sugar.

What began as a hobby at home turned into a fulltime career as Elle Jay’s works became sensations when he started The Pancake Warrior YouTube channel. Up to date, he has garnered a total of 16 million views and was given the YouTube Silver Play Award for having reached over 100,000 subscribers.

The Pancake Warrior is such a cool person who's got a ready smile for everyone. We learned the tricks on how to make that perfect hotcake art. He advises, “You can just use additional ingredients, like whipped cream, chocolate chips, or even fruit slices, to decorate and make designs on the hotcakes. “You don’t need to be an expert to do Maya Hotcake Art! For me, the important thing is that you make your kids and family happy, and that you have fun together.”

With Maya, there are endless ways to make any meal more exciting. For more fun ideas on making hotcake art, follow Maya Hotcakes & More on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Mayahotcake and on Instagram at @mayahotcakesandmore. You can also visit us at The Maya Kitchen Culinary Center every Tuesday to Saturday at 8F Liberty Building, 835 A. LIKHANG HABI AT KULTURA FAIR

It was an opportunity to see new products that are 100% Filipimo thru the press preview of LIKHANG HABI AT KULTURA FAIR yesterday at Kultura in SM Megamall.

Support Filipino artisans and help keep the cultural tradition of these crafts alive by dropping by the first Likhang HABI x Kultura Market Fair on April 13 to 15 at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong. Part of the proceeds goes back to the weavers.

Though the advocacy started years ago, this is the first time that the organization tied up with organic plant kit corporation MNLGrowkits for a full guide on the Philippine cotton. That said, HABI will be having a lecture on cultivating and growing cotton—further emphasizing the fiber as an integral part of the native Filipino rituals and lore and indigenous culture.

Since 2009, HABI has been providing the weavers and vendors an avenue to further enhance their skills in creative design and modern marketing by exchanging ideas with consumers, designers, and traders. The weaving community’s level of product development has since grown: from placemats and blanket and then to jackets, dresses, shoes, and apparel. One of the exhibitors, Rosal Lim of Rurungan sa Tubod Foundation, revealed that being with HABI all those years has made a huge impact on the foundation’s brands and the people behind it. As they launch their first cotton line, Lim expects to help more weavers. “The more people that we can get to join, the more they get to be exposed to the possibilities that their crafts can give them. What’s good about weaving projects like ours or the ones all around the Philippines is it empowers the craftspeople to make a living off what they do best. The more you give them an opportunity to live off this craft, the more people will stick to it,” Lim said. Also for the first time, HABI is joining forces with Kultura Filipino, a pioneer cultural supporter in Filipino Craftsmanship. Kisha Roxas, senior marketing manager of Kultura, said that their collaboration for this year’s Market Fair is an exciting one, getting to highlight brands in the same bandwagon. “What we’re trying to do is, for HABI, they’re trying to promote the importance of Philippine cotton,” said Roxas. “For Kultura, what we want to highlight is really keeping traditions alive and keeping the heritage alive; the craftsmanship that goes into making all these beautiful textiles and materials. A lot of the products now are shortcut machine work, but the items that we have here are all handcrafted. There’s really a meticulous labor that goes into it.”
